From the Chronicle of William Rishanger, published by the Camden Society, 1840.
Dictus Ricardus ait, "Cavete! ecce inimici vestri super vos." Ait dominus W. de Bello-Campo, "Revertentur sarcinae;" et fecerunt moram in loco ubi sancti martires occubuerunt. Tunc ait dominus Petrus, "Fere omnes dicunt dominum Simonem comitem Leycestriae esse sanctum; ideo deprecemur Jhesum Christum, ejusque sanctam Dei genitricem, geniculando, forte deridendo, si sanctus est, demonstret virtutem suam, et det nobis in loco isto aquamm vivam!" Simon de Montfort
For some time we have been posting photos and medieval documents (in their original languages) pertaining to the life of Simon de Montfort on the Simon de Montfort Facebook site. But, with the required conversion of the site to the Timeline Facebook format, that has become a chat site and inappropriate for our intended purpose of making available rare documents. We intend to continue our services to those interested in Simon de Montfort, the 13th century, English history and Old French and Latin and will (we hope) be moving the documents already posted at Facebook to this new site.
We thank our friends from Facebook for their patience in this conversion, and look to offering many more documents of interest, including the completion of the trial notes for Simon's trial for treason in 1262. We apologize for inconveniences this change has caused, and hope to make new friends here.
